STC: Sound Transmission Class Definition
Below please find some summary information regarding STC. On the second page please find some of the ratings we have obtained with various assemblies that included our insulation products. Our insulation products have been evaluated by the ICC and the assemblies described are currently referenced in our evaluation service report ESR-1996.
STC is a single number rating of the transmission loss properties of a barrier panel (e.g. walls, partitions, doors, and windows). Barrier panels (walls, doors, windows…) will tend to have an STC close to the value of the lowest STC of any component.
Flanking paths have an impact on actual STC as sound will travel the path of least resistance.
The following Assemblies were tested at Riverbank Laboratories using GreenFiber products. The test report number is referenced under each assembly rating. The diagrams and stated STC ratings listed are intended to serve as a guide. Construction practices have an influence on final STC ratings. GreenFiber, LLC cannot guarantee actual STC ratings. Flanking sound patterns, the integrity of the wall, and floor and ceiling construction are important factors in effective sound control.
