GreenFiber's GreenFiber® goes to College
As the environmental impact of building becomes more apparent, learning tools for students of technology and trades must not only present the latest theories, techniques and operations, they must present methods to be stewards of the environment as well. To that result, Goodheart –Wilcox Publisher presents GreenFiber’s GreenFiber Cocoon Insulation along with other energy conserving products in Housing Decisions, a textbook that will be used in high schools and colleges across the country.
Housing Decisions, which was written by Evelyn Lewis, Ed. D. and Carolyn Turner, Ph.D., gives students guidelines for acquiring and constructing a home. The authors inform students, "About one-fifth of all the energy used in this country is used in housing so efforts to improve the energy-efficient construction of houses are underway." The textbook presents students with the uses and values of energy efficient building products such as recycled cellulose insulation, programmable thermostats and energy efficient windows. Students learn how to make intelligent, energy-efficient choices when constructing or acquiring a home.
GreenFiber Cocoon Insulation consists of an earth-friendly 85 percent recycled material (including newspaper) and requires less energy to produce than mineral fibers such as fiberglass. GreenFiber also has a .90 NRC (noise reduction coefficient) sound performance and Class-1 fire rating. The product can be used in the attic and exterior walls to promote thermal comfort and in the internal walls to cut down on the transmission of sound. GreenFiber’s environmentally-friendly features fit right in with this effort for energy conservation.
Established in 2000, GreenFiber LLC is a quality-conscious provider of GreenFiber Cocoon Insulation, fire and sound products. GreenFiber is sold through major home centers, building supply retailers and lumberyards in the US and Canada to the do-it-yourself and contractor customer. GreenFiber’s products are also sold through a national sales force to residential and commercial contractors as well as to the manufactured housing industry. The company, headquartered in Charlotte, NC, is a 50/50 joint venture of Louisiana-Pacific (NYSE:LPX) and Casella Waste Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CWST). GreenFiber has the capacity to turn what has previously been an environmentally-friendly "specialty" product into a major competitor in the building products industry.
